Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a major awards ceremony nears, you'll find an outcry for the addition of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game got ignored in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
